I Got The World On A String

(F21 parka & ring / Uniqlo sweater / Topshop skirt / UO belt / Jeffrey Campbell wedges)

What would you do when the outside temperature warmed up to just -5 and the snow just suddenly... stopped? You would wear your favorite shoes out and fall in love with them all over again :) It's been awhile since I wore them, I almost forgot how comfortable they were. On a different note, my shopping ban is in full effect until I finish revamping my place. It's been quite a challenge coming up with outfits using the pieces I already have in my closet, especially when I see other bloggers share their shopping hauls or bargain finds on their blogs. I feel like a contestant in The Biggest Loser during a Temptation Challenge, ya know?:p Does anyone else follow TBL? I love that show! :)

Hot Like Chilli Peppers

(ZARA blazer & jeans / Old Navy tee / ALDO shoes / Local Boutique clutch & belt)

Can you tell that I've been infatuated by the color red lately? I even changed my blog layout to fulfill this color obsession :) I won't go as far as buying red-colored clothes, but I don't mind putting my money down for red accessories, such as this python-skin clutch and the red cocktail ring I've been wearing a lot lately. Now all I need is the Dolce Vita pair I wrote about a couple of posts ago. If only I could grow a money tree. Or if Dolce Vita was kind enough to sponsor my little blog :p

By the way, if anyone has a favorite interior design blog/website (such as this), please share! :) I've been collecting room inspirations to re-decorate my place. Thanks thanks and many thanks! :D

The As to your Qs (Part 2)

Hey everyone! Here's the second part to my Q&A :)

31. Hmm... I noticed your accent, what language do you speak?
My first language is Indonesian. I started speaking English on a regular basis when I moved to Toronto 8 years ago.

32. Has your passion for fashion altered since the start of Monochroma.Chic?
Yup. Now, I want to build a sustainable career in fashion. Long way to go, but wish me luck! :)

33. Do you prefer quality over quantity to what you have in your closet?
I used to be a quantity-over-quality girl and I still am to a certain extent. For clothes, I still go for the trendy yet affordable brands, such as H&M and Forever 21. ZARA is quite expensive these days, but I like love their end of season sales ;) For shoes, I've started investing on better brands (i.e. brands that actually focus on making/selling shoes)

34. When did you start getting into fashion and who were your first influences/inspirations?
I've always been interested in the aesthetic side of fashion. I love great clothes, shoes, and accessories. However, I've become more interested in the business side of fashion since I started this blog and realized that even though I love working with numbers, I don't want to be in the accounting field forever. That's why I'm taking a fashion merchandising certificate program to help me reach my goal :)

My first inspiration? Momma-chromachic (that's my mom, hahaha...)

35. Do you plan your outfits in advance or choose on the day you wear them?
I usually plan my outfits when I'm in bed just before I go to sleep (who's with me on this??), though sometimes I would just follow my instinct :)

36. What is the #1 item on your holiday wishlist??
I guess this question is no longer relevant, but I was really hoping to get a pug puppy :)

37. What is your dream job? And would you leave your current job for it if given a chance?
My dream job is to become a buyer. And I would absolutely leave my current job if I could get a merchandising position in a fashion/apparel company.

38. What's the one piece of clothing that you can get away with that none of your friends/family can't?
4-inch heels? My mom only wears flats and my brother...well, he doesn't wear heels :p

39. Which of your shoes are your most worn?
Hmm... that really depends on the current season. My Cougar snow boots have been getting a lot of love lately due to the extreme winter condition :)

40. What's your top fashion "do" and "don't”?
DO = Wear black even when you're feeling happy/cheery.
DON'T = Leggings as pants! Seriously people!

41. What's the craziest/wackiest/off the wall thing you've done for fashion?
I've done... none :( I like to play it safe, unfortunately.

42. Do you have any pets?
I do :) I have two dogs back in Indonesia: a pug and a pomeranian.

43. What's your favourite food?
I love love love Korean food :)

44. I was wondering how you learned how your pose yourself and all that?
LOL. I never learned, that's why I suck at posing. Check out Lily for inspirations ;)

45. If you had to wear one designer brand for the rest of your life what would it be and why?
Marc Jacobs. He's got preppy, feminine, quirky, modern, all in one :)

46. When the heck are you gonna get your butt over here to Vancouver so we can meet? :)
I really want to visit Vancouver sometime, seriously! I want to meet you, you, you, and you! :)

47. If you could go anywhere in the world for fashion week...where would you go????
Without a single doubt... New York :)

48. How bad is your eyesight (you wear glasses/contacts, right)?
I had my eyes checked recently and both are -2.00 :(

49. What advice would you give to someone wanting to start their own blog?
Spend time on your blog layout. It's the first thing that attracts people to your blog. Also, take clear outfit pictures. A good point-and-shoot camera is sufficient (no cellphone cameras). I'm using a Canon PowerShot and I'm always happy with the results (well, most of the time) :)

50. Hey fellow Torontonian! What's your favourite part of the city?
Hello!! My favorite part of the city has got to be the St. Lawrence Market area :) Wait... and west of Queen St. West.

51. What is your favorite time of the year?
Fall <3

Hahahaha... why are you so sweet?!? :)

53. What is your most memorable or favorite post that you have done in this year?
I guess "this year" means 2010, right? :) Wow... I seriously don't know. I always take the time to write each post, so I love all posts equally. However, some of my favorite outfits are this, this, and this :)

54. What is the best bargain you have ever found?
My latest bargain find is the $5 belt from Urban Outfitters. It was the last one on the floor. Even the cashier told me that I was very lucky :p

Thank you everyone for the great questions. I had so much fun answering them :) :)

Let There Be Sparks

(Mango sweater & purse (gifted) / UO belt / Uniqlo skirt / Jeffrey Campbell shoes / Rubi ring)

Remember the belt I mentioned in my previous post? TADAAA! Not bad for $5, huh? Now you might think that this is what I wore on my birthday (sparkly = celebration = birthday. I love math :p), but no, this is what I wore the day before. I had a birthday outfit in mind, but a snowstorm hit Toronto on the 19th so I had to wear jeans, a thick sweater, and snow boots instead :(

Some of you have asked me to write about my trip in December. Sadly, there isn't much to tell. The weather was horrible and it was raining for most of the time I was there (and in Bali, too! Booo...) I also got sick (like... really really sick) during the last week of my trip. I couldn't go sunbathing and as you can see, I'm still as pale as a ghost. But I will post some pictures very soon, so stay tuned for them :)

Have a great week, everyone!

I Don't Need Glass Slippers

But I need these in my life.

Dolce Vita "Persius" Wedges

And I was going to get them as a birthday present for myself. BUT, I made a promise to myself earlier this year that I would turn my condo into a much better living space (instead of looking like a student dorm). That means, I must not spend a single penny on shoes for the next few months. Oh Lord, give me strength. It helps (a bit) that Dolce Vita only ships to the US. But that doesn't mean I can't stare drool at them during lunch break, right? :p

What do you think of them? :)

Your Hands Are So Cold, My Love

(ZARA coat / Uniqlo jeans / H&M scarf / ALDO bag / Spring boots / old leather gloves)

It was beyond freezing when CL and I took these photos on Saturday. We just finished having late lunch at a small "Belgian" cafe on Ossington and I thought, why not take pictures of the streets covered in snow? Poor CL for bracing the cold and trying not to shiver so I could have a few decent photos for the blog. The day went on with us trying to find him a pair of fingerless gloves (which I think is the most ridiculous design of winter gloves ever) that he can wear to operate his iPhone (the main reason why I dislike touch-screen phones, so much hassle!). Oh well, to each their own, right? Besides, I was able to snag a pretty cool belt for $4.99 while he's busy finding the perfect pair of gloves ;)

My apology for the late response to my Q&A back in November :( Thanks so much for all the great questions about me & the blog! Without further ado, here are the answers:

1. How do you keep up with blogging everyday?
Actually if you noticed, I don't post everyday. I update my blog about 3 times a week because A). I don't take outfit pictures everyday (I hit fashion rut almost every morning) and B). Replace one worry with another

(Costa Blanca cardigan / H&M blouse & hat / Uniqlo jeans / (old) ALDO bag / Jeffrey Campbell shoes)

"That's the secret to life . . . replace one worry with another."
Charlie Brown

How's everybody's weekend? I went to see the Green Hornet on Saturday and it was ahhh-mazing. It's got enough action and humor, definitely stings like a bee ;) It's getting very cold in Toronto. I love winter, but I hate frost bites. I got rashes on my legs, thanks to the jeans + below 0-temperature combination :( As my title suggested, I started off 2011 with a few worries in mind. I won't go into details but I wish I could just deal with each worry, one step at a time. Time to grow up, I guess. Besides, my 25th birthday is coming up in 3 days. Eeepppsss!!! >.<
