Never Is An Awfully Long Time

IMG_6906xx

Anna from UniQueen, a Korean fashion boutique based in Toronto, contacted me for a chance to review one of the pieces from their Spring collection. It took me awhile to choose a piece, not only because they offer a great selection of drool-worthy clothing, but also because most of their items are one-size only. Now, if I was 20 lbs. lighter and 2 sizes smaller, I would not have a problem with that. Unfortunately, I'm not :( Thankfully, Anna was patient enough to wait until I was able to find something that I liked and knew would fit my non-petite frame.

I normally wear a size 6 or 8 in H&M and a Medium in ZARA. I would say that the 'actual' size of this blouse equals to a Small in the North American size chart. I consider myself 'lucky' because this blouse still fits me, though an additional couple of inches would make the fit much better. Notice how the shoulders and sleeves are a little short? Initially, the arm holes also felt a bit tight, but the fabric stretched out throughout the day, making them feel more comfortable.

The first thing that prompted me to this blouse was its cute peter pan collar. It's made out of faux leather with feminine scallop trimming and laser cut detailing -- how could you not love it?! I did have to iron the collar before I wore this out, though. When I took the blouse out of the packaging, the collar was up like this! I had to give it some heat to "relax" the faux leather and press the collar down in place. Does that make any sense? :p

Another thing that I adore from this blouse are the buttons down the center of the back. Each button is wrapped in a leatherette fabric, making it look more chic and refined. Buttoning them up, however, was quite a challenge! I tried to work my way down-up and it was just almost impossible to do :( Then I found a simple trick:

1. Wear it like how I would normally wear a button-down shirt.
2. Button all the buttons except the very top one.
3. Take the blouse off but not all the way, leave it hanging on my neck.
4. Turn the blouse 180 degrees until the buttons are facing the other side (i.e. on my back).
5. Finish it off by buttoning the top button!

Of course, I can also leave it at step #1 and wear it as a regular button-down blouse ;)

I only have two small complaints about the blouse. First, I expected the fabric to be more opaque, like how it appears in the pictures on their website. I definitely can't wear this out without adding a camisole/tank top underneath. Last but not least, there's no care/washing instructions tag on it. It would be very helpful to have that on :)

Anyway, thank you so much UniQueen for letting me review one of your products. Don't forget to visit their website! :)

xx toodles.

I love the blouse you ended up choosing for the same reasons as you... that scalloped/cut-out collar is too cute. I've never thought about how difficult it is to wear shirts with buttons on the back before... glad you found a solution, haha!

I am not a huge fan of the peter Collar trend but you pull it off quite effortesly, and without making your top look too cute/girly/chilidish.
i actually like this top on you, but what i love about this outfit isn't the top, its the fab black bag you are carrying!!!
the fact that your top needs a tank top or camisole underneath and doesn't have any instructions on how to wash its quite bad, but its a lovely piece and u can easily forget that.
i am glad i found your blog,
i am definetely following you via GFC and Bloglovin, in order to catch up with your new posts.

why, why,why did you keep the back hidden at first. Looove the buttons at the back. And that Peter Pan collar is beautiful. The pants really looks good on you and that is a gorgeous bag. Love the animal print wedges too.

The collar is so cute. I have the same problems with some asian sites. It's so funny how you explain to put on the shirt. I hate when clothes are complicated.

Wow, that collar is a beaut! If someone ever happens to the shirt, you could cut the collar off keep it as a detachable one!

Kris, your choice was perfect. I've been really enamored of Peter Pan collars lately, and this is a really versatile piece and such a good choice. ... You know, apart from the fitting issues and the lack of care instructions.

It looks amazing on you.
